MÖTLEY CRÜE's SIXX Lines Up 'Jackass' Star For Film Version Of 'The Dirt'
February 4, 2003MÖTLEY CRÜE bassist Nikki Sixx says that his early favorite to play him in the movie version of their best-selling band autobiography, "The Dirt: Confessions of the World's Most Notorious Rock Band", is "Jackass" star Johnny Knoxville. "He told me he wants to do it," Sixx tells Rolling Stone. "I felt pretty comfortable thinking about him doing it after I walked outside from the meeting at Paramount [Pictures] and he was peeing on the tire of some executive. He has the right attitude."
Sixx also addressed the possibility of the band embarking on a reunion and farewell tour to coincide with the movie's theatrical release (scheduled for 2004). "It will be the original lineup or there won't be a tour," Sixx says. "It's hard for guys like [former MÖTLEY CRÜE drummer] Tommy [Lee] and [MÖTLEY CRÜE singer] Vince [Neil] to visualize being on stage together, but you sit down and say, 'Look, we have this huge history and the fans love the music, so let's give them the greatest MÖTLEY CRÜE experience and then move on.'"
The movie project continues a busy year for MÖTLEY CRÜE, as all of their original albums will be reissued with bonus material in April, and a career-spanning box set is due by Christmas.
The reissue project on Universal division Hip-O Records will begin April 1, with reissues of the band's 1998 "Greatest Hits" compilation, eight studio albums, a live album, a rarities compilation, and two DVD home-video compilations. Eight of the 11 albums will be augmented with bonus tracks that have previously only appeared on Japanese editions. For the band's first seven albums, the tracks will sit next to bonus tracks that appeared on the initial remastered reissues in 1999.
The albums slated for April 1 release are "Greatest Hits", "Too Fast for Love", "Shout at the Devil", "Girls, Girls, Girls", "Theater of Pain", "Dr. Feelgood", "Mötley Crüe", "Generation Swine", "Supersonic and Demonic Relics", "Live: Entertainment or Death", and "New Tattoo".
The reissued DVDs, hitting stores the same day, are "VH1 Behind the Music: Mötley Crüe", a DVD version of the group's highly rated 1999 episode, and "Lewd, Crued, and Tattooed", a concert video originally released in 2001.
In other news, a radio interview with Sixx, conducted by Chicago radio personality Mancow at the Hard Rock Vault grand opening in Orlando, Florida on Jan. 16, has been posted online in MP3 format at this location (file size: 6.61 MB).
